SketchUp viewport to Drafto render

You keep modeling in SketchUp. Drafto covers the fast presentation step from a viewport image—no Drafto plugin required.

How do you render a SketchUp view with Drafto? Frame the camera in SketchUp, export or screenshot a clear 2D view, upload that image to Drafto chat, describe materials and what must stay, then use Studio to edit marked regions. Drafto does not replace SketchUp modeling or real-time engines inside SketchUp.

Steps

  1. 01

    Frame the view in SketchUp

Set a clean camera for the presentation angle. Two-point perspective helps for exteriors when you want verticals upright. Hide clutter layers you do not want in the render.

  2. 02

Export or screenshot a clear image

Use a high-resolution 2D graphic export or a sharp screenshot of the viewport. Untextured or simply shaded views are fine—the prompt will carry materials.

  3. 03

Upload to Drafto and write a keep-list

In chat, name materials and lighting, then explicitly say what must stay: massing, openings, camera, and proportions from the SketchUp view.

  4. 04

    Compare, then refine in Studio

Check the result against the upload. Mark cladding, landscaping, or a door in Studio and chat only about that selection when clients ask for one change.

Practical tips

  • Clear silhouettes and readable openings produce more faithful results than busy, overlapping linework.
  • If the first frame drifts, regenerate with a stricter keep-list before art-directing materials.
  • For live model iteration inside SketchUp, a real-time engine (for example Enscape) may still be the better design companion—use Drafto when you need a plan- or screenshot-based marketing frame.

Questions

No. Drafto runs in the browser. You upload a viewport export or screenshot and continue in chat and Studio.
